Alright folks, hopefully you are listening to this episode in the morning so that you can enjoy this treat and pair it perfectly with your morning coffee. It’s another food lover’s dream of a day, and an excuse for a sweet treat this morning. It’s February 21, and today is National Sticky Bun Day.

The sticky bun, sometimes referred to as cinnamon rolls, coffee rolls, or monkey bread, has German origins, known as the Schnecken, and made popular there in the 18th century. (Technically, the cinnamon bun is the sticky bun’s sister from Sweden, created in the 1920s.)

In the 19th century, the Germans who settled in Pennslyvania brought this treat to the US. Even today, it is known as a Philadelphia specialty that most of us are totally on board to enjoy. Often with caramel and nutty flavors, this confection is certainly like having a sinful dessert for breakfast.

Did you know, that the very first people to add honey and nuts to their bread were the ancient Egyptians? Today there are tons of variations made with the leavened yeast dough. In the UK, sticky buns made with rosins are called Chelsea Buns. However you like them, this is a breakfast I can get behind.

Happy Holiday everyone, and I”ll see you tomorrow.
