March 9: National Get Over It Day
There’s an old Eagles song that is titled with today’s national holiday — where we should let it (whatever “it” is) and move on. Whether it’s a heartache or a general grudge, there’s no better day to move past it on March 9- National Get Over It Day.
Like most inspiring things in the world, today’s holiday comes out of love… well, actually, it started from the ending of love, with one tough breakup. This is one that most of the world can relate to.
So, how did this day start, really? We can thank National Get Over It Day to Atlanta resident Jeff Goldblatt, who strategically placed the holiday between the doldrums of Valentine’s Day and April fools’. Mr. Jeff created a website with a poem manifesto to kick the day off — if you want to check it out go to getoveritday.com where you can see the videos, manifesto, and purchase some intriguing memorabilia that say “it could always suck more.”
Well, Jeff clearly found a relatable audience, that’s for sure. There are nearly endless breakup songs, power breakup movies, self-help books, and just tons of things to help people move on. On this Get Over It Holiday, self-reflect about whatever you’re dwelling on, maybe burn some items you need to let go of (safely) or work it out with some awesome breakup songs.
Happy Holiday everyone! And I’ll see you tomorrow.
